The Department of Medical–Surgical Nursing plays a central role in preparing students for real hospital environments. Students are trained to care for adult patients with medical and surgical conditions through a balanced approach of theory and practical exposure.

Training covers areas such as general medicine, surgery, orthopedics, neurology, cardiology, oncology, and critical care. Students learn patient assessment, care planning, emergency response, and pre-operative and post-operative nursing management. This foundation builds strong clinical judgment, technical competence, and professional confidence.

Health Talks & Patient Education

As part of clinical exposure, students conduct structured health talks in hospital settings. These sessions help educate patients and families about disease prevention, hygiene, nutrition, medication adherence, and recovery care.

This activity strengthens communication skills while promoting community health awareness and patient-centered care.

Skills Laboratory Demonstrations

Before entering clinical areas, students practice procedures in the skills laboratory. Faculty members demonstrate each nursing procedure step-by-step using mannequins and modern equipment.

Students then perform supervised return demonstrations to ensure accuracy, safety, and adherence to scientific principles. This method builds confidence before real patient interaction.

OSCE – Objective Structured Clinical Examination

Clinical skills are assessed through OSCE, a structured and standardized evaluation method. Students rotate through stations to perform procedures and answer clinical questions within a set time.

This ensures fair assessment of clinical competence, decision-making ability, communication skills, and professional conduct.

Clinical Re-Demonstration in Hospital Areas

During hospital postings, students observe procedures and later perform them under supervision. This supervised practice ensures safe patient care while helping students gain real-world experience.
